Seven stages of brain-based planning

Seven stages of brain-based planning

Chapter Twenty-One of your course text includes the seven stages of brain-based planning. The strategies are organized in a sequence that makes sense to the brain. The list is by no means exhaustive; you can add many more strategies to it based on the demographics of your particular learners. Go to Discover Learning’sLesson Plan Library and locate a lesson plan that represents the grade level and subject area you teach or are interested in teaching.  In your discussion, post a link to the lesson plan that you have selected.  Next, answer the following:

  • Is the lesson constructed utilizing the Pre-Exposure and Preparation stages?  Provide examples from the lesson to support your answer.  If the lesson is not constructed utilizing these stages, how would you change the lesson to help the student(s) develop a better conceptual map? Provide an example of the change you would make.
  • In viewing the lesson, identify which strategies support Stages three, four, and five  in your text.  Provide examples from the lesson to support your answer and explain how these strategies help to make meaning for the student(s).  If the strategy in the lesson does not help students make meaning, how would you change the strategy(ies).  Provide examples of what you would modify.
  • Does the lesson provide a verification and confidence check?  Does the lesson instill the love of learning?  How? Provide examples from the lesson to support your answer.  If the lesson does not include these strategies, how would you change the lesson to create celebration and integration?  Provide an example of the change you would make.
