The villainous character Thrasymachus in Book I of Plato’s Republic argues both (1) that Anti-realism is true, and (2) the immoral life is better than the moral life. Thrasymachus believes that it pays to be immoral as long as one does not get caught. This second notion is a pervasive theme in Woody Allen’s film Crimes and Misdemeanors. Think about the film. Reflect upon the characters: Judah, Cliff, Lester, Barb, Wendy, Halley, and Ben. Does Woody Allen convince you that Thrasymachus is correct and that injustice pays? If so, why? If not, why not?
