Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection MUST USE SOURCE: THE RELUCTANT MR. DARWIN BY DAVID QUAMMEN

You are going to create an outline that explains Darwin’s argument as he presents it in the chapters you’ve read (Quammen, btw, would be a good resource here). Your outline must conform to the following guidelines:

  • Your outline should contain a 2-3 sentence statement of Darwin’s theory of natural selection. This will not be heading, but will be simply a paragraph at the beginning.
  • Each Heading (I.II. III, etc.) must be the chapter title (Ch. 1-4 & 13).
  • Under each heading, you must provide a one sentence summary that captures what Darwin’s purpose is to this particular chapter/heading.
  • You must have subheadings that capture the main subarguments of Darwin’s thesis in each chapter. The number is up to you and dependent on what you think Darwin’s sub-arguments are.

This assignment has a purpose other than to make you regurgitate Darwin’s theory. I want you to understand how he framed his argument for readers because this is what he is going to be judged on.
