Over the past decades, the advancing technology has increased the significance of media in providing information and influencing public opinion in contemporary society. In his essay “The Braindead Megaphone,” George Saunders presents a man with a megaphone as a symbol of the media. The media plays the primary role in providing information to the public and as a source of entertainment. It reports on the effects of various cultural, socio-economic, political, and environmental issues on humans. In turn, it influences public opinion and affects global socialization. Nevertheless, increasing competition between media houses and the motivation for financial benefits have encouraged media to deviate from its roles and responsibilities.
