1. Grammar: These verbs are followed by the base verb no matter what tense make/let/help* is.
Rosa made the kids pick up their toys. His boss lets him leave early. I will help you clean up. *help can be followed by infinitive—but it is less common
2. Meaning: These verbs are NOT interchangeable. Causative verbs
Make = force, require, compel let = permit, allow help = assist, make possible
Rosa made the kids ask permission for snacks. His boss never lets him leave before 6:00. Reading helped Bich become a writer.
Something CANNOT affect someone to do something.
Reading affected Bich to become a writer. Wrong!
Something can affect someone negatively or positively by + gerund
Sheltering in place has affected a lot of people negatively by making them feel depressed.
Do not use an infinitive after become.
Bich became to be a writer.
For example/for instance Try to use this grammar in your essay!!! J These phrases can introduce a word or phrase.
I love all of kinds of dessert, for example chocolate cake, cookies, and ice cream. J
They can also introduce a whole sentence.
