People can find themselves in different environments daily or even multiple times a day. There are really two main environments. One environment is where people confront the facts, and the other environment is where people to not confront the facts. How people experience these environments early in their life can guide of they handle them later in life. Leaders may find themselves in these different environments even more than a typically person. For example, if a leader makes the decision to lay off employees without any kind of reasonable explanation, they deny themselves and their employees the opportunity to confront their facts. Whereas, allowing employees to understand the situation gives them an opportunity to confront their facts, and leave on good terms. It is important for people to be given an opportunity to face the truths or facts in any situation. Even when pursuing criminals, there is a need to establish facts before making accusations. When people confront truths, society becomes a better place.
It is crucial to understand the disparity between confronting the facts and avoiding them in a criminal justice viewpoint. It could determine the success or failure of prosecution. The investigation of facts is extremely important do be completed for any action is taken because when people do not complete proper and thorough investigations, errors happen. People can be falsely convicted or even falsely released. Because of this, environment is very important. Creating an environment that allows people to seek and speak the truth is conducive to a productive criminal justice department.
Matthew 7:7 says “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Bible Hub, n.d). This scripture shows the benefits of seeking the truth. This passage reminds Christians that they should always ask to find answers and if answers do not come then one should seek the facts. This leads to one needing to learn ways to seek the truth. Paul reminds Christians to remain truthful in everything that they do when he states “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness…” (Bible Hub, n.d).

For this assignment I was able to speak to one of my managers within the courthouse to get their experiences for the different environments they were involved in. The first environment where they did not confront the brutal facts, where the people were not heard, she stated, “Early on as an assistant I lacked any confidence and when passive aggressive attitudes happened I tended to brush off thinking they didn’t affect the office or others around even myself, as much as other behaviors that I let take precedent” (T. Criswell, Personal Interview, November 13, 2020). The second environment that she spoke of where one did confront the brutal facts where people had the opportunity to be heard, she spoke of, “Because of COVID the job has of course changed, it’s made some fairly unsure/uncomfortable. To confront this head on, we advised staff ahead of time we wanted a meeting and to please bring any ideas or solutions they may have. We held and are still holding meetings and expressed gratitude and brought upper management and others so they know we were being honest/sincere with what we could and couldn’t do” (T. Criswell, Personal Interview, November 13, 2020).
I would say that the difference between the two are that with the first environment there was animosity to the environment that was around the individuals. Trying to not use feelings when communicating with people who were coming in the office. As our textbook states, to be a competent communicator doesn’t mean that more communication Is always better (Meese & Ortmeier, 2010). With the second environment, it’s showing that there was open interpersonal communication. By conducting meetings this is allowing for useful communication. The environment is now opened to allow for people to tell their truths and issues they may have. The contrast of the two teach us that all though communication is great, it needs to be an open environment to be able to allow others to speak their problems out. Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupting talk come out of our mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” I believe that by allowing yourself to focus on the word when dealing with anything to do with communicating it will help with the environment. Being kind in your words will go so far. Meese and Ortmeier speak to the ability to communicate with overcoming the ability to defensive with the subject being communicated (Meese & Ortmeier, 2010). It is very important to focus on your ethics when communicating with others.
