In response to the student’s remarks, I need to emphasize that an individual’s religious belief, neither qualify him to become a nurse or exclude him from the same. The most important aspect is the sensitivities and respect nurses demonstrate to the religious beliefs of the patient. At the end of the day, the only important point is the religious beliefs of the patient, not those of the nurse. In this regard, the nurse’s role as a spiritual caregiver is to enable the patients to reflect on their religious values and beliefs and not those possessed by the nurse (Fowler, 2008).
