In recent years, a large number of studies have shown that female body dissatisfaction is common. Moreover, there is substantial empirical evidence that physical dissatisfaction is associated with lower self-esteem, lower life satisfaction and higher eating disorders. In the mass media, the image of thin and perfect women is also influencing women’s body satisfaction. Women internalize these idealized images of thinness, the “ideal of thinness,” which has an impact on their body dissatisfaction. But from the male point of view, research misses a lot of depth and breadth of research whether the male body image affects them as much as the female body affects the female body image.
