What is ageism? How does ageism influence the presence of diversity in society?

Ageism is the chauvinism and discrimination aligned with elder people. The main reason for this is because it is a set of norms, believes, values, and attitudes used to justify age relating to discrimination, prejudice, and subordination. This can either be systematic or causal. The term ageism was coined later in 1969 by Robert Neil Butler (Heller, 2010). The main reason why he coined this was to describe discrimination beside patterned, senior on racism, and sexism. Within the process, Butler defined ageism into three elements which included prejudicial attitudes towards aging process, discrimination rehearsals against institutional practices, and those polices which perpetuated typecasts about the aged population.
