The Fertile Crescent is the region stretching from the Nile River in Egypt to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in modern Iraq. Other countries included in this crescent are Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Israel. The emergence of civilization in this region was sparked by the following factors. Annual flooding promoted farming. The floods deposited fertile soils, and people considered changing from hunting and gathering to farming and herding. Agriculture made people settle in particular places and carry out their activities from there. Another factor that promoted the emergence of civilization was the trade (Von Sivers). People had surplus foodstuff and animal products, which could be sold for what they did not have…….
