by Malcolm X

Answer Preview………………….
The primary goal of Malcolm X’s 1964 speech, “The Ballot or the Bullet,” was to unite African-Americans in their quest civil rights against an establishment run by whites. The speech severally mentions the opposition which is the government. In his speech, Malcolm X uses the rhetorical devices of logos, ethos, and pathos. He utilizes logos to challenge his audience to adopt Black Nationalism. He states, “Once you change your attitude, it changes your behavior pattern and then you go on into some action” (Mossberg 21:03). The logic here shows how doing one thing can lead to some result. Malcolm X also uses ethos to appeal to his audience’s trust and to establish his credibility. He is already a respected civil rights leader, but he still builds his credibility. He admits to being a Muslim, but he states that everyone should leave their religion aside for the sake of the struggle, demonstrating that he is serious about the issues as he is willing to sacrifice his beliefs for it. His use of pathos, however, is his strongest. He emphasizes certain words such as “control,” “government,” and “white man” to get a strong emotional response……….
