- Are you a loyal Costco customer? If you are a loyal Costco customer, why are you loyal? What makes Costco attractive to you? If you are not a loyal Costco customer, why not? Think about elements that are specific to Costco such as membership fees, locations, prices, products offered, value, etc.
- Costco merchandise is divided into two categtories: Triggers and Treasures. Triggers account for 3/4 of the product offered and are staples such as toilet paper, detergent, breakfast cereal, milk, etc. Treasures are impluse buys that you find when you are shopping that you just can’t pass up. Treasures make up 1/4 of the merchandise at Costco. This question is on impulse buying. Do you allow yourself to impulse buy when you are grocery shopping? Do you buy things that are not on your grocery list? What is the most expensive “treasure” you have ever bought (from any retailer)? This is any item that you have bought on impluse, it does not have to be something from Costco. Why did you buy this item? Did you have buyer’s remorse?
- What do you think are the main reasons Costco has been so successful and has been able to maintain a specific competitive advantage for such a long time? Use information from the film or your own ideas.
- What one recommendation would you make to Costco to make it even better? Why?
