RE: Follow-Up on the Interview
Thank-you/Follow-up Message Prompt
“A follow-up message after an interview is more than a professional courtesy; it’s another chance to promote yourself to an employer.” (p.385)
In three brief paragraphs, acknowledge the interviewer’s time and consideration, express your continued interest in the position, explain a crucial point that you have reconsidered, and ask for a decision.
Note: Remember that this “Follow-up message” is in response to the job posting you have found and been working on the past few weeks. Assume that you were called in for an interview and are now sending a thank you/follow-up message.
This is a message sent after you’ve met the interviewer, so you should know the name. If you don’t have a name for the person, make one up.
If you use an email format instead of a business letter hard copy format, remember to include a subject line at the beginning!
(Refer to the sample letter in the book on p. 386, but don’t copy it — Plagiarism)
