Battle Analysis: Battle of Antietam

The Battle of Antietam is considered the single day bloodiest military confrontation in the history of the United States not only because of the quantum of blood spilled on the Maryland battlefield, but due to the impact, its outcome had on subsequent wars fought by either side and the political activities that followed it cessation. Although the Union Army claimed victory for this battle and provided the opportunity for Abraham Lincoln to promulgate the Emancipation Proclamation, General Lee fought at the famous battle that changed the history of American wars (Trudeau 234).
