Section I – Advances in data collection and usage of “big data” have been applied ina number of different ways to improve the management and operation of law enforcement agencies as well as community relations. Discuss the benefits and challenges of the changes that have occurred due to new technology and applications such as geographic information systems (GIS), Computer Statistics (COMSTAT) as well as Evidence-based and Predictive Policing.

1. Section II . With the development of larger towns and cities in the late 1800’s American policing began a process of change toward more modern law enforcement. Discuss the phases or eras that marked the evolution of American policing and the factors that influenced them. For example identify and discuss the major factors influencing adoption of the “professional” model era. Also evaluate the successes and weaknesses of these phases including the long-term impact on traditional strategies of patrol and investigation as well as community relations.
