In 2010 October, the crew of the Horizon of deepwater started preparing to abandon the Macondo well in Mississippi Canyon. They estimated that in just a few hours they would move the drilling rig to enable the movement of the completion rig. Unfortunately, the rig began shaking, and there was a loud noise followed by natural gas and a rise in sea water level (Kleinnijenhuis et al., 2015).
