For a communication to convey message to intended audience, Nielsen (2008) asserts that it should have minimal misunderstanding and overcome common communication barriers.  These characteristics can be compared with formal writing that requires the writer to present written information in a manner that can be easily read and understood by the reader. Informal writing also requires the writer to portray written information in a way that enables the users to comprehend the written content.
