Compare and Contrast the Artwork of Ancient Egypt And Ancient Persia

Write an essay approximately 2000-words in length. It must be a thoughtful exploration of the concept of representation.

In the essay, compare and contrast two cultures (Ancient Egypt and Persia, specific timeline given in the files) by exploring the art produced by each. Focus your discussion on two or three works of art, but consider those objects in their political and social contexts. Thus, to some degree, you are asked to compare and contrast those two contexts.

WORK OF ART: We broadly define “work of art,” it need not be a painting (but it certainly can be a painting). A pot or basket qualifies as a work of art, as does a temple or a house. PLEASE DO NOT ATTACH ANY IMAGES TO THE PAPER.

REPRESENTATION: Your essay must address the term “representation” as it applies to art. Your task is to explore the role representation plays in your two selected cultures, and that exploration must be grounded in the objects you choose to write about.

SOURCES: Use the files I have attached and outside research papers. Please cite papers in MLA Format Attached are detailed notes on the points that should be talked about in the essay and include some pictures of what kind of art is found as an example. Also is attached is a research article on each culture. Other sources will probably have to be used.
