Renewable energy is energy sources that can be renewed by nature or human efforts, such as wind power (windmills), hydropower, and solar power or planting trees after they were burned or cut down (Maxwell, 2014). Renewable energy is important because it helps to reduce greenhouse gas caused by using non-renewable energy sources, fossil fuels, and human activities. Also, renewable energy provides clean energy that correlates positively to clean air and water, reducing climate change, reducing pollution, and increasing public health. Also, renewable energy means affordability in preventing price increase. Renewable gas provides reliability and resilience because it is easily distributed, and the energy source is endless. Also, renewable energy produces jobs, such as manufacturing the components that help to distribute and create energy like the windmills (EPA, 2020). Conservation is the act of protecting resources that are beneficial to sustaining life on earth, such as air, water, trees, and wildlife, etc. Conservation of resources is important because it means sustaining resources for a long period of time, such as using renewable energy (National Geographic Organization, 2020).
There are various actions that can be taken to promote environmental sustainability, such as at the national level, preventing deforestation and incorporating reforestation, and maintaining soil fertility to prevent soil erosion. At the state level, treating industrial wastes to prevent harsh chemicals from entering water bodies and the air. Also incorporating dams and reservoirs as a way to produce energy. At the local level using renewable energy sources, such as windmills, solar power, other renewable energy sources. At the international level, implementing policies that protect biodiversity (world wildlife fund [WWF]) and punish those who become a threat. lastly, at the individual level, there are various steps I can utilize to reduce my own ecological footprint is being eco-friendly, such as recycling, using biodegradable resources, and following policies and regulations that were enforced to protect biodiversity.
