demonstrate what you think about ONE aspect of plagiarism as it was discussed in the articles

Both Students and Scholars should understand all the Plagiarism Parameters and face the Consequences Accordingly

The Price of Plagiarism

Working with the blog post you write in Week 3, identify an argument that you can make about plagiarism. As you saw, there are a myriad of reasons for plagiarizing, and not all of those reasons are laziness. In fact, quite a lot of student work that ends up being called plagiarism is either caused by inadequate understanding of academic rules (here we go with the discourse communities again!), or are a result of stress and panic.

In this essay, I ask that you demonstrate what you think about ONE aspect of plagiarism as it was discussed in the articles I asked you to read. You can focus on anything you would like: from paper mills to the moral issues surrounding academic dishonesty.

Keep in mind that this is an argument paper: you need a thesis.

Once you have a thesis, you need to come up with 3 (or 4) paragraphs supporting your thesis. Please make sure that you are NOT GIVING ME that dreadful “counter argument” paragraph. As I said before, those are insincere and never really work. Instead, I would like for you to spend your time selecting arguments that you can genuinely engage with. If you feel that you want to spend your time refuting a notion– great!! Just do not present any argument as a bait-and-switch.

I ask that you refer specifically to at least 2 texts that we read in Week 3. You do not need to fully cite for this assignment, but you do want to observe the in-text citation rules. Please go through the lecture on including sources in your argument.

You need to argue what we know and can see– not hypotheticals please. So, please do not refer to “one” or “a person” in your writing– these ways of writing lead to assumption or to generalization. If you want to discuss people, be specific. Give their names, or at least a general specification of who they are (as in “College students in America” or “International students.” Additionally, please do not include rhetorical questions. If you ask questions, make sure to answer them. Remember: questions NEVER replace analysis. Your job as an academic writer is not to entertain: it is to provide information, present your point of view, and show us how your thinking came to be.
