Module 4 – Case

DISASTER RESPONSE AND RECOVERY

CASE ASSIGNMENT

Response to Hurricane Disasters

Recent hurricanes Dorian (2019), Harvey, and Irma (2017) have devastated parts of the Bahamas, Texas, and Florida respectively.

  1. Wise (2006)* proposed implementing an “adaptive management” approach for disasters. Explain the use of this model in terms of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Support your statements with quotations.
  2. NIMS mentions the Incident Command System (ICS): Describe a typical ICS specifically related to a hurricane disaster response. Who would comprise an ICS? Describe the roles of the members. Note: You can use an actual ICS (from Google) for either Hurricane and comment on its structure.
