Group Communication

Purpose:

This assignment is a culmination of all the readings from your text:

Communication in the Real World.

The purpose of this assignment is for you to show your ability to link the emotions and feelings of others to the language they use and decide whether that communication builds either a bridge or a barrier in an interpersonal interaction.

Step 1: Select one of the following film or documentary listed below and view it:

  1. Twelve Angry Men: Available on YouTube, and other free internet sources.

Watch full film, 1:36. Lumet, S. (Director). (1957).

Step 2: Take notes while watching the film/documentary, and look for the following:

  1. What non-verbal communication did you notice that spoke louder than the words spoken in an interaction.
  2. Describe an interaction where “listening” either occurred or what potentially prevented “listening” in the interaction.
  3. Finally, describe the relational dynamics between individuals. Did a relationship develop? What type of support do you think contributed or not to the relationship?

Step 3: Write a paper using the three areas above in your analysis of the film or documentary you chose to view. You must use terms from the text to show your ability to use Communication terms to analyze this film or documentary.

Technical aspects: Paper should be 2-3 pages, typed, double-spaced, using 12 font.

This should be a formal paper, including Intro, body, and conclusion. Do not just answer, or respond to the questions above.

Include the names of individuals. (12 Angry Men have the characters faces and Juror numbers attached at the end of this assignment.
