What Was The Significance of The Constitutional Act Of 1791?

The Constitutional Act of 1791 is also called the Canada Act. That was the piece of legislation that came into effect when the British Parliament changed operative elements of the Quebec Act of 1774 to create the first trappings of modern Canada. The effect of the Act was that it created a Lower and Upper Canada at the time. One of the main driving forces of the enactment of the Act was that Britain was reacting to the fallout that the American revolution had brought to the entire North American sub-continent. The British Empire was beginning to adopt a different mechanism of exerting control over the vast territories. One of the most important trends at the time was that the country was beginning to cede control over to the territories, always ensuing that the people left with authority in those areas maintained the legal traditions of the crown…….
