Discuss how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors affect job satisfaction.

Discuss how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors affect job satisfaction.

After working through the Theoretical Foundations Powerpoint (see attached ppt), select only one of the theories and discuss its usefulness in the context of managing organizations. Use online peer-reviewed journal research (case study research is best) to inform your writing, and to advance the theoretical discussion beyond what you encountered in the PowerPoint. You may select a theory that you will eventually use elsewhere in the course.

Identify the consequences of having dissatisfied employees and describe ways of applying the four theories of job satisfaction and how you would use them to boost job satisfaction. Discuss how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors affect job satisfaction.

When answering consider how goals may help with job satisfaction and how to design jobs to enhance motivation.

In this lesson one theory that stood out was Fieldler’s Contingency Theory. This theory focuses on the leadership style needed depends on the demands for the situation that one finds themselves in. In the article “A Study of Fiedler’s Contingency Theory Among Military Leaders” by Ellyson, Gibson, Nichols, and Doe, the research attempts to use the Five Factor Model and Fieldler’s Contingency Theory to discover what leadership qualities produce better results in the military (Ellyson, Gibson, Nichols, and Doe, 2012). By understanding the types of personality strengths that thrive in the military, the study then correlated them to regular situations that are throughout the military in peace time operations. Results showed that goal oriented people showed to excel in the military as it correlated with conscientious mindsets (by Ellyson, Gibson, Nichols, and Doe,2012).

I have endeavored through online, the four theories of job satisfaction are Frederick Herzberg Two Factor Theory, Locke’s Value Theory, Adam’s Equity Theory, and Opponent Process Theory (Job Satisfaction Theory, 2019). When dealing with a team member it would be up to the lead to ensure they practice one, if not all of these theories to ensure the locate and resolve the issue a team member may have. Only by first isolating the issue and referencing these tools that are provided to them can the team begin to reconnect and work together to accomplish the intended goal. Teams may work these goals for a long period of time which can cause this distress. To combat this I suggest setting short term goals on the way to the final product. Reaching these short-term goals will instill a sense of accomplishment and motivate people to reach the next checkpoint. We spend the most of our lives on long term goals and it can seem that the end is never insight. By creating these short-term goals it will relieve stress and dissatisfaction of not making progress on them. This concept will create intrinsic motivation and good leaders will provide extrinsic motivation to the team overall as they reach new heights on the project.

Each student reply once to this message and change the Subjectline to include your name. Then you ask one question, based on the content of Week 5 or related to the first 4-weeks of this course that you want to learn more about. Then, we will all engage in answering the student provided questions. All the weekly discussion postings will be in this one thread.

You are more than welcome to include in your question related ramifications of the recent events such as Covid-19 as long as your question relates to the course content. No political biases please, but focus on what is happening in the workplace due to the current environment.

This way, you take more control over your own learning in this course by asking a question you still want to learn more about rather than me prescribing all the questions for you to apply to in all weeks.
