The importance of resource conservation is to implement a lifetime of hazardous waste standards and certifications for hazardous waste storage or disposal facilities and requirements to encourage hazardous waste minimization and recycling of harmful waste (Maxwell, 2014). Renewable energy, which is known as clean energy, generates from natural sources that are recharged through sunlight, wind, and solar (Shinn, 2018). Conserving energy is essential because non-renewable resources have many negative effects on the environment. When non-renewable fuels such as fossil fuels, oils, and gases are released into the environment they contaminate the water we drink and the air we breathe (Khalid et al., 2015). The more energy that is used, the greater risk of global warming.
What environmental stewardship approaches can be used at the community, national, and international level to promote environmental sustainability.
Environmental stewardships are a great way to bring communities together to promote healthy environments. Local communities and groups come together to create ways to protect the environment by decreasing harmful activities or pollution, restoring degraded areas, and purchasing sustainable products (Bennett et al., 2018). On a national level, laws can be implemented to help protect the rights of local stewardships and their responsibilities while providing resources to help promote and build strong, safe communities. Promoting sustainability is the main goal of environmental stewardship whether at a local, national, or global level. Sustainability around the world is important as it creates new avenues of inventions and innovative ways to conserve energy. A global approach would be to implement EPAs guidelines and set regulations that will help reduce toxic waste created by power plants, chemical dumping and spread the word to get individuals to consume less, and conserve more (“How Does Saving Energy Help The Environment”).
What practices can you adopt to reduce your ecological footprint?
Practices that my family and I can adopt to reduce our ecological footprint would be to reduce the use of water. Conserving water in my house would save us a lot of money on the water bill. Now that I think about it, my son takes about four showers a day and my girls are in the shower way too long. My husband, in the summer, water the yard and flowers every day. My kids are going to be upset with me but this has just helped me put things into perspective. I am going to put a timer on the shower and have my husband install a timed sprinkler system that will water the yard and flowers for 20 minutes, two to three times a week. This will help conserve water and cut the cost of my water bill.
