In Viktor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, the author and Nazi concentration camp survivor remarked about the role art played in his mental health and survival. Frankl was an avid reader, and he had an intense appreciation for the fine arts. It is assumed that he often used his memory of the watercolor, Albrecht Dürer’s Pond in the Woods as a safe mental escape. These qualities, at times, helped him transcend the atrocities of the concentration camps.
