BA 548 DISCUSSION:

Please select ONE of the questions below to answer:

  • What guidelines should be followed to make sure that recruitment advertising does not violate equal employment laws?
  • Can you think of three organizations that have used their image to recruit employees? What image did they try to project to potential applicants?
  • What role do job descriptions and job specifications play in an effective recruitment program?
  • Considering that there are millions of resumes posted on the Web, what steps should recruiters follow to screen out unqualified candidates in a fair and nondiscriminatory manner? Explain your answer.

In your answers please draw from your own professional experience and provide examples from your own life, either as a leader, helper, employee, or observer. Review the reading, draw from your own ideas, examples or experience– and conduct some additional research as needed.

At the Master’s level we look for responses that include citations of information from the textbook or other journal articles to support your position. Consider the questions carefully; respond the question clearly, and provide additional information to support opinions. While you don’t have to cite every answer with the textbook or other reference, most of the time you will for full credit.

POSTING REQUIREMENTS:
You are expected to 1 main thread and 1 reply post. (Each post is worth 20 points).

For a quality post, discussion posts should be at least 250 words per question…for higher point value questions, more work and analysis should be provided! Student responses should provide a good platform for sharing ideas and helping each other expand on the topics.

BA 520 Discussion

Instructions:

Start a new thread in the discussion topic to respond to this week’s discussion question(s). Remember, there are two parts to the discussion: 1) your response to the question and, 2) your participation (replying to classmate threads).

MAIN POST:

Consider your tool kit you are working on (see folder on this classworks), discuss with your peers what a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) is and how it factors into your project. Be sure to explain some of the factors you are considering that determine cost and benefits and what the possible return on investment might be. See Table 6.11 for an example. This discussion can be used to support your insight for week 4’s tool kit deliverable. Note your post should include a brief narrative explaining CBA and a table like on Table 6.11 detailing out your training costs with cost per trainee.

ENGAGEMENT:

Students are expected to contribute to the discussion on a minimum of three different days while the discussion board is active. In order for all of us to benefit from the active participation of all members of the class you are required to post on a minimum of three days while the discussion board is active. Try to post early in the week, mid-week and late in the week. By spreading out these postings we should have a lively and interesting discussion for the entire week.

PEER POSTS

While the DB is active, you also want to respond to a minimum of two of your classmates’ original threads (replies to peers to your own original thread do not fulfill the peer response requirement). Your response should be substantive and either expands upon the original thread or critique the original thread. Be sure to reference your opinions and comments. The responses should be substantive not just “great point, nice job, way to go.”
