#1: Answer from Angela Jones

I think the marketing stakeholders include everyone who will see use, come across, or hear about a company’s product. The inclusion of internal and external stakeholders must be considered due to the fact that everyone who comes across a product develops an opinion of it in one way or another and is likely to pass that opinion on to another should the opportunity ever arise. For example, someone who watches as another person struggles to use a product, like being unable to open a stroller easily, this person will think about this the next time they see this product. If they were then looking to purchase a stroller and saw that item, they would probably not buy it. While this 3rd person was not an intended target of their marketing message, they became one upon watching the product in action. This is the case with almost all products and services.

Of course, a company cannot please all stakeholders at one time. So, they have to think about social marketing and what is best for the good of society, or for the most number of stakeholders. They can also consider some primary stakeholders, and others secondary stakeholders, making their marketing decisions with the primary stakeholder’s best interest being the priority. With this in mind, they should give special attention to those who will directly use, or be affected by, their product. For example, a diaper company should pay special attention to mothers who will use their products and market directly to them, showing the benefits their products offer. But they should also give some of their marketing attention to the effect their diapers have on the environment, possibly showing how they are biodegradable or made from recycled materials. In this example, like so many, marketers must have several different groups of people, or stakeholders, in mind when determining how best to market their product.

#2: Answer from Kelsey Donohue

The marketing stakeholders are any persons or groups who interact with or are directly or indirectly affected by the decisions of the company. Marketers should 100% pay attention to all of the marketing stakeholders. Both internal and external stakeholders are important members of this group but messages and directives need to be carefully curated towards each group. Internal stakeholders are the basis for success in Marketing (Big M). Successfully customer and external campaigns begin with the buying in of the marketing mission by all departments within the company and their employees. The combined consensus is grounded in aligning all company actions towards the customer. External stakeholders are equally important, if not more because of one group: the customers. Since is it the main goal of Marketing within a company to focus on customer orientation, the external stakeholder should ideally be always in the minds and actions of the company to protect their market.

#3: Answer from Jennifer Ward

According to the information in Chapter 1, marketing’s stakeholders include any person or entity inside or outside a firm with whom marketing interacts, impacts, and is impacted by.

I feel that marketers should pay attention to the marketing stakeholders both internally and externally. Both internal and external stakeholders are equally important in making the business run successfully.Strong relationships with internal stakeholders will in turn create strong relationships with external stakeholders. For example, poor relationships internally could trickle over to the level of service provided externally which could then create unhappy customers.Marketers should also pay special attention to societal marketing and sustainability in order to create and/or maintain socially responsible companies

Angela Jones Response

Your discussion is very reasonable and clear. I particularly support the idea that marketing stakeholders are all people who interact with a product or service whether directly or indirectly. To add to your discussion, I think the stakeholders also affect the direction of marketing through feedback. Not only do they affect the sales or perceptions of the product but they also affect the producer’s direction with the marketing efforts. For instance, in your example of the stroller, reviews and feedback will affect the way the producer of the stroller designs the next version and portrays it in popular media. In dealing with the stakeholders, you also advance a valid point about not being able to satisfy all stakeholders. However, you fail to elaborate the most important stakeholders in marketing and how they affect the marketing process. This is where orientation and differentiation come in…………
