As stated by Koplow (2006), nonlethal weapons refer to weapons that are not designed to cause serious bodily injury or death. However, nonlethal tactics and weapons have been linked to a series of deaths in different countries across the world. Good examples of nonlethal weapons meant for personal protection include pepper spray and mace, batons and night sticks, and stun guns. Pepper spray is a chemical that has the potential of blinding and disabling criminals temporarily. When a suspected criminal comes into contact with pepper spray, a severe discomfort and pain is felt for close to forty five minutes.
