Question: Chapter 10 discusses situational awareness. Much of the security efforts of the past have been centered around prevention and protection. The increasing sophistication of cyber attacks have shown that no controls are 100% effective, and some compromises do occur. There is a rising realization that in addition to considering prevention and protection, controls that address detection and response are necessary to improve security posture. Please describe how situational awareness is a driver for detection and response controls. (400-500 words)

In response to this, it is factual that situational awareness plays a crucial role in helping organizations identify all the planned malicious activities in that organization. As such, it alerts the management of any threat that may be posed to the organization. Apparently, without situational awareness, the management can’t determine the potential threats and the strategies to curb these threats. It is true that some of the threats within an organization emanates from the personnel which if not identified can seriously cause damages to the organization. Some of the threats could be identified by observing the personal behaviors of the personnel (Alcaraz & Zeadally,2015)…………….
