Ch 18- Emotional Responses and Mood Disorders p 289 and ATI Ch 12 p 98
1. Review in the book – Do not write an answer. the differences between grief and maladaptive grief?
2. In both books it lists comorbidity of depression with other psychiatric illnesses.
Pick one comordity and explain the relationship with depression.
3. Review and know the differences between Postpartum blues, post partum depression,
and post partum pyschosis ,dysthmic disorder and SAD- seasonal affective disorder. DO
not write an answer.
4. In the ATI book, Under MDD it lists the different phases of treatment for this disease.
review the treatment options and especially note the time tables. Do you agree with this?
explain your answer.
5. Review on pg 100 in ATI- some of the risk factors for MDD and list 3 that you found
surprising.
6. When assessing a patient for MDD what are some of the subjective data we look for?
Identify what is anergia and anhedonia and anorexia.
7. What were some of the objective symptoms that you observed in clinical today of
patients who were depressed MDD? List at least five.
8. When working with patients who are depressed- what type of nursing care
interventions did you use or observe others use in clinical this week? List at least five.
9. Review the anti depressant medications in ATI pg 102.
-Name one of the SSRI meds and what is serotonin syndrome?
-Name one of the TCA meds and what is what is a side effect of this med?
-Name one of the MAOI's meds and what is hypertensive crisis? and what foods should
be avoided and why?
-Name one of the atypical antidepressants and explain any conditions to be aware of.
10. Be familiar with some of the treatment options and or procedures for MDD patients?
