Does the memo discuss enough examples of documentation to give the reader a clear sense of the written communication that takes place in this field?

For this assignment, write a memo addressed to me, in which you identify and discuss the specific types of written communication that are produced by actual engineers, who are currently working in your chosen field. Do they write memos—about what and to whom? Do they produce reports? How long and in what format? Who will need the information in these reports? For what purpose will they need it? Do the engineers at this firm write letters to inform or persuade? Identify specific purposes for which people who work in this field use email?

You must obtain this information by interviewing one or more engineers (no more than three) who work in your anticipated field. You might contact an engineering firm and ask if someone there would be willing to meet with you or respond to an email interview. If you choose an email interview, you will need to choose your questions very carefully—keeping in mind that you need this person to provide you with very detailed responses about the types of written communication he or she produces.

In your memo to me, be sure to include details about each interview, such as the person’s name and occupation. Identify their company, what it manufactures/does, and any other pertinent information. If you already work in your chosen prof essional career, you might interview a coworker with a higher position in the organization. Choosing someone whose job requires a lot of written communication will improve the results of your research and the success of your assignment. You can only interview one of your engineering professors if they are practicing engineers.

It is imperative that you do not limit the information in your memo to a simple listing of communication types such as: “Engineers working in this field primarily write memos and letters.” Provide a complete rhetorical analysis of each document—describe the content, structure, purpose, and audience for these documents.

Write your memo in format of an e-mail message. That is, it should have a heading that includes these elements:

  • Date:
  • To:
  • From:
  • Subject:

Your memo should be 1000 words and block-formatted. Single space the text within paragraphs, do not indent the first line of paragraphs, and skip a line before and after headings and between paragraphs (this document is block-formatted). This assignment will be evaluated, using the following criteria:

Interview Memo Criteria for Evaluation

Is the information obtained from the interview/s relevant, detailed, and does it enhance the reader’s understanding of the written communication that takes place in this field?

  • Does the memo discuss enough examples of documentation to give the reader a clear sense of the written communication that takes place in this field?
  • Does the memo discuss those examples in enough detail to give the reader a clear sense of the purpose, audience, and structure of these documents?
  • Is the memo organized and formatted (with headings, lists, etc) in a way that makes its information accessible and easily understood?
  • Has the memo been edited for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style issues to the extent that it would be acceptable in a professional environment?

for the interviews, just make questions and answers. Since there are 3 people, just use the 3 people as person 1, person 2, person 3

Requirements: 1000 words
