FORUM POST 1:

Hello class,

Data Warehousing is the process by which data from multiple different sources can be loaded into a database and then be sorted and indexed and then outputted to show a customer, or the company where they stand in relation to what the data should be.

Reading through this topic, I realized that my current position as a general foreman and what I do every day is data warehousing. At least I feel it is pretty close to it, since I take data from my supervisors below me during a project we are working on and funnel that up to my project manager. The project manager then takes this data and outputs percentages for work completion to our customer ( The Navy) so they can understand what and how much of the work they have asked us to do, has been done on the project currently. We take various amounts of information from our supply system, our Engineering section, Production section and compile it into a table of percentages that we walk the customer through twice a week so they can track our progress.

FORUM POST 2:

Hello Class,

The purpose of a data warehouse is to store historical data for an organization, allowing it to use that data to analyze business performance. The data in the data warehouse is able to be organized in any way an organization chooses, allowing leadership to understand the data and use it to make strategic decisions. The data in a data warehouse is only historical data, meaning that a data warehouse needs to be separate from the daily operational databases, which often change based on business activity. Because the data warehouse information is not changing, it makes it easy to use for data analysis. The data warehouse often contains tools that gather, combine, and sort the data automatically, allowing users to quickly access the data as needed.

Data modeling is how the data is stored in the database of the data warehouse. Different organizations will have different data models depending on what types of information they collect and what purpose they have for the information. The data model is how a data warehouse organizes the data it contains in a logical manner for the organization. Most data modeling consists of storing data in a series of tables based on chosen attributes of the data, then combining that data as required by users to present data for analysis. Having a good data model will benefit an organization by having data that is well organized and accurate, allowing for quick access to the data required for good business analysis.

Utilizing this storehouse of data, organization pioneers can legitimize significant choices by support their thoughts up with subjective and quantitative information. Databases are structures that compose information into lines and sections making the data simpler to peruse. Information distribution centers are databases that go a stage forward by taking into consideration information investigation. They do not simply gather and sort out information however they likewise total it for long haul business use. While the two information lakes and information distribution centers store data, the sort of information contrasts incredibly. Information lakes store crude information that presently cannot seem to be sifted and characterized. Information distribution centers store organized information that has just been sifted and characterized for a particular use.
