  1. Explain four patterns of attachment and give an example of each one. Indicate which pattern you find to be the most common, and support your answer with examples from the text and movie.

2.You are the social worker for Joe’s family and are tasked with completing an assessment on the family. (joe the king movie)

  • What are all of the societal factors involved, for each family member?
  • How might these societal factors influence family dynamics?
  • How might these societal factors influence the psychological or biological systems with which they are involved?

3.RESPONSE TO ALESHA: Secure attachment is one of four patterns of attachment. Children with difficulty behaving attachment can contribute to parenthood and as an obstacle. Infants during the secure phase are energetic, cheerful, and search without being free when around mom, dad, or guardian. When discomfort is felt, a baby may cry in their parent’s absence. When an infant or child feels safe, protected, and knows all needs are being met is secure attachment. Understanding, tenderness, affection, and being emotionally balanced can display to children that their parents can adequately cope with not only the happy moments but the difficult moments of parenting.

Apprehension and defiance are other patterns of attachment where children and infants experience discomfort at a complex level. The infants and children experience unsteady tending to care and support. Being able to depend or count on the parents, guardian, or caregiver is slim to none. Children who experience this attachment stage can develop low self-esteem and insecurities. The child may also desperate need, please and stay in the presence of the parent.

During the avoidance attachment phase, the parent, caregiver, or guardian ignores or does not acknowledge the infant or child. Infants and children who experience this phase tend not to care if the parent is around or not. These children usually grow up fast and end up having to parent their parents. Both Joe and his brother had to grow up fast because both of their parents were absent, and they both understood that they were on their own and had to take care of themselves.

The disorderly and disorganized attachment causes dismay and no acceptance to the infant or child because of the half-hearted and non-committal from the parent, guardian, or caregiver. The children who experience this phase tend to act out and exhibit hostility. Unfortunately, Joe tried to avoid his dad at all costs because of how aggressive he was with him.

The pattern that I believe and hope is the most common is the secure attachment phase. Both of my boys would light up when they saw me, and if they couldn’t find me, panic would arise. I contribute that to the love, care, and support I have always given. Sadly, some children won’t experience unconditional love from their parents, and when I think about Joe, I remember that children today are going through the same fight……….Respond to a fellow learner whose chosen most common pattern is different than yours. Discuss their reasoning in comparison to your own—do you stand by your initial post or have you changed your mind? Why or why not? Support your response with examples from the text and movie.

  1. RESPONSE TO DALE:Attachment is an important aspect of life, especially when considering a bond between a parent and a child. According to the text, “The quality of attachment (affectional bond) that develops between caregiver and infant is a significant factor in the biopsychosocial functioning of the child.” (Lundahl & Hull, 2014, p.154)

Secure Attachment is when children see others in a more supportive role thus making them more accepting of themselves and feel more competent and confident. An example of secure attachment is when a child is dropped off at school for the first time and they are fine with the situation. The child understands that their parent will return due to their secure attachment.

Anxious-Avoidant Attachment is when children are not as effective in managing their stress in stressful situations, so they typically do not seek help from others and withdraw. An example of anxious-avoidant attachment would be a child who is having trouble at home, but instead of seeking help from their peers, they decide to withdraw socially.

Anxious-Resistant Attachment is when children are more likely to stay close to their primary caregiver and not have any attached relationships with their peers. An example of anxious-resistant attachment is the opposite of secure attachment. The child being left at school for the first time would likely have a meltdown because they always relied on their caregiver to always be there.

Disorganized Attachment is when children have difficulty organizing their strategy for coping with separation from their caregiver. Similar to anxious-resistant attachment, a child with a disorganized attachment would not know how to adjust to situations so they would likely freeze when left without their caregiver.

Respond to a fellow learner who either identified a societal factor that you missed, or whose answers to either of the other two questions differed from your own.

  • In the first case, discuss your response: Is that societal factor actually at play? If so, why do you think you missed it? If not, support your explanation with examples from the text or the movie itself.
  • In the second case, discuss the differences: What might be influencing the difference in perception? Support your answer as above.
