Explain the role of history and culture upon social welfare in various countries.

Discussion Response

Is there only one kind of social work?

Should social work be based on universal values ?

Does social justice mean the same thing around the world?

Or should social work be different depending on the culture in which it is practiced?

These are the questions we will ponder during this module as we explore the similarities and differences between how social work is practiced around the world.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • CLO5.1 Explain the role of history and culture upon social welfare in various countries.
  • CLO5.2 Analyze social welfare supports, policy, and social work in various countries.
  • CLO5.3 Illustrate the global interconnections between social welfare in various countries.
  • CLO4.5 Research social welfare and supports in a global context.

In this module, you have: 1 PowerPoint lecture to enjoy, 5 videos to watch, and 3 readings.

  1. This chapter is also by Lynne Healy who you read last week on the SDGs. She wrote a popular textbook called International Social Work and I have assigned the chapter where she briefly profiles what social work is like in 7 different countries and discusses their similarities and differences. It is split into 2 halves.
