Fair and Efficient Performance Reviews

Fair and Efficient Performance Reviews

Suppose you were recently promoted to a supervisory job in a company where you have worked for two years. You genuinely like almost all your co-workers, who now report to you. The only exception is one employee, who dresses more formally than the others and frequently tells jokes that embarrass you and the other workers. Given your preexisting feelings for the employees, how can you measure their performance fairly and effectively?

Class,

I will offer Tips and Hints on each of our weekly DB’s (we typically have two per week). I will focus on at least one element of our DB’s (as our DB’s usually have two questions per DB). My Tips and Hints are entirely optional, and you can choose to follow my advice or not – the quality of your response(s) is up to you and you are responsible for all of your research, interpretation, and APA formatting (citation and referencing). These Tips and Hints are offered as a courtesy. Thanks, Dr. Vic.

Discussion 1: “Fair and Efficient Performance Reviews”

Dr. Vic: a few things to keep in mind with this DB: fist please make sure you have read Ch. 10 and 11, but particularly Ch. 10 of our textbook – this chapter address very directly employee performance. After thinking about the DB scenario above, I am fairly certain some of you will discuss how it is important to evaluate all employees with common standards, essentially evaluate everyone the same. Others of you will likely discuss how you might need to address this situation directly – head-on, and perhaps sit down with the employee to individually review your group’s expectations and evaluation criteria. Any professional approach you take will likely be fine, but please discuss it and defend it and, please blend in information from Ch. 10 of our book. You need to demonstrate insight from our textbook within your DB responses from week to week. Finally, please keep in mind fairness and the investment the organization has already made in each employee as you discuss how you will address this situation.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Dr. Vic.

I think I included everything…..even added comments from the Professor. 🙂

Answer Preview………….

In the given scenario, I have been promoted to a supervisory position in a company where I have worked for two years. As a supervisor, one is expected to conduct fair and efficient performance reviews of employees regardless of the existing relationship with members of the workforce. In this case, the supervisor has a preexisting issue with one of the workers who often embarrassed the supervisor and tells jokes that may be considered to be inappropriate at the workplace. In such an instance, several strategies can be put in place to ensure that the performance review is conducted in a fair and effective manner……..
