For this week’s conference, respond to the following:
- Find an article in an IEEE or ACM journal about technical documentation. Read and summarize the article, and give us your reactions to the article. Be sure to include a good citation to the article.
- You are welcome to comment (nicely!) on the postings of other students.
Respond to Ronald:
The article I chose was titled “Extracting Development Tasks to Navigate Software Documentation”. This article talks about how the needs of documentation for software developers can be lacking in a typical documentation structure. It then goes in depth about how it designed and created a tool to extract software documentation from traditional technical documentation. This tool that they created called TaskNavigator was a success in extracting useful documentation for software developers.

Respond to Gregory:
This week I read the journal, Towards Next Generation Technical Documentation in Augmented Reality Using a Context-Aware Information Manager, in ACM. This journal describes the process of how technical documentation is evolving just as quickly as the software that it is documenting. The forms of technical documentation have grown from paper to screens and in this journal it describes the implementation of Augmented Reality to convey how the system functions. This system would use a Context Aware Technical Information Management System that can manage not only information, but also how information is presented in the AR environment.
