Gambling Disorder Reclassification

The conclusion to reclassify gambling disorder from the class of impulse control disorders to substance-related and addictive disorders was a good decision. This is because the move effectively recognized gambling disorder as the foremost behavior obsession. For gambling disorder, there is only extreme commitment in an activity whereby money is staked on the unknown prospect of a bigger monetary prize with the exemption of exogenous substance. However, the role of money in this equation is imprecise. This is because money is self-evidently a compelling enticement, but at a mental level, it is a complex, learned reinforcer, which is not the case for a natural reward such as sex or food. Therefore, the mystery remains, what makes gambling to create a power equivalent to that of drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, heroin and others? Additionally, the reclassification was good because unlike other impulse control disorders, this disorder has a threshold of four to nine symptoms that have transformed significantly from the original list in DSM-III (Grant & Chamberlain, 2015)…………
