After browsing the presidential libraries online, give one major example of a former president “going public” and making systematic appeals to the public in order to seek support for a presidential proposal to Congress. The presidency of the United States of America is commonly seen as an individual’s place in the government. However, more often than not, the case is different. Presidents do not make laws on their own, and they need the approval of Congress to pass their agenda and therefore lead the American people. The presidents being single individuals, there powers to control Congress may be limited especially when the majority of the Senate, as well as the House of Representatives, are made up of legislatures from the opposition side. Therefore, “Going public” sometimes becomes an effective way of swaying the votes of Congress to pass their agendas.
