Government Agencies and Departments

Government Agencies and Departments

This week we are discussing administrative law. Remember there are both federal administrative agencies that deal with issues of federal law, and state administrative agencies.

For this week’s discussion we are going to be looking at some administrative agencies.

Part 1: Visit the A-Z Index of U.S. Government Departments and Agencies at USA.gov.

From the alphabetical listing of federal agencies please select one that interests you. Review their web site. Provide the agency’s name and their mission. Also please provide a regulation that the agency created. Remember that a federal regulation is published in the Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.). If you find a law in the U.S.C., it is not a regulation, but is a statute. These two are not the same thing, so therefore keep searching.

Part 2: Visit the official state website of your home state. From there locate one state administrative agency. Please provide the agency’s name, mission and one regulation that the agency created. Remember that a state regulation will also not be the same thing as its code. Also please remember to look in table 1 in the bluebook, under your state for the proper way to cite the regulation.
