Parole/Release Report Guidelines

General Guidelines

The assignment is to prepare a 3-5 page, typed report that evaluates the advisability of releasing a prison inmate once that person is eligible for parole. You will use the case information provided, information from your text, and any other outside information you choose to help you complete the report. Sources outside your text must be cited in APA format and you must provide a list of those References at the end of the report. The assumption is that you have been contracted by the correction facility to do this evaluation, and both the parole board and the inmate’s attorney will receive copies of your report. You must use the data provided EXCEPT that you will provide a summary of a Clinical Diagnostic Interview (which you will create from your understanding of the case information) and use the Mental Status Exam checklist to identify significant symptoms/items. You are free to structure the “interview” as you see fit, however, keep in mind to ask questions designed, not just to diagnose, but assess the degree of rehabilitation and/or remorse for the crime for which he has been incarcerated.

Format

Your report will include the following information in the following narrative format:

A. Subject name, status and place of incarceration

B. Date, Place and Reason for Evaluation

C. Psychological Assessment Instruments and Procedures utilized in the evaluation

D. Collateral Sources of information (telephone, letters, interviews with family, etc.)

E. Brief Social History and Description of Legal Charges

F. Mental Status Exam (derived from Clinical Diagnostic Interview)

G. Test/Procedure Results

H. Diagnostic Impressions

I. Summary Conclusions and Recommendations
