If we look at the readings from this week,  Thomas Rice (Chapter 2 of Health Politics and Policy/4E) discusses the notion that there are five ways in which the government can be involved in any system, including a healthcare system.   These five ways are as follows:

 

1)  Provide information

2)  Regulate (set of rules for private providers)

3)  Mandate (stipulate that private entities act in a certain way)

4)  Finance with public monies

5)  Have government provide services directly

 

If we look at these five types of intervention and the U.S. healthcare system,  which one best describes the role of government?  Can you provide examples of each type of intervention in the U.S. system?
