Section 1: Identification. Historical Significance of Johann Gottlieb Fichte. As a philosopher of the Enlightenment era, Johann Gottlieb Fichte supported the ideological principles that shaped the French Revolution. He considered the reforms promoted by the revolutionary government as important for the liberty and equality that all humans deserve. Therefore, it was not surprising that his address to Germans after the occupation of Berlin by Napoleon inspired the country’s revolution. Fichte (1997) asserted that the foreign invaders never intended to protect the internal boundaries of Germany but to use the people to accomplish their selfish aims and objectives of global domination. It was an effective approach for exploiting the ingenuity and naivety of Germans and turn them into useful hands for collection the spoils and treasures of war.
