Workplace Bullying

Nurses’ welfare is important for them to perform quality work. Therefore, healthcare environments should favor patients’ recovery and comfort and ensure that nurses feel safe from the various factors that may affect them. Employers and managers should cultivate environments that protect their nurses’ physical and psychological welfare so that they can perform well and be healthy (Lim & Bernstein, 2014). Workplace bullying is among the types of incivilities that happen in workplaces that may affect performance. Therefore, to improve nurses’ satisfaction and service quality, nurses, managers, and employers must protect nurses who are vulnerable from any parties that may seek to bully them. I have experienced workplace bullying from my seniors who thought I should work more than I was supposed to, which led to low motivation.

I have experienced bullying severally from mostly more experienced nurses. The bullying came in several forms. In some cases, bullying was passive, and it mainly included offensive statements, especially against new nurses. I was made to feel less deserving to be there because I was new. I have also been made to perform more work than I was supposed to and cover for other absent nurses. For instance, in one case, a nurse failed to show up to work for several days, and his peers made me work more shifts despite being tired and having less experience because they were more seasoned and claimed that for me to climb the employment ladder, I had to work more than them. While I have never been physically bullied, psychological abuse led to losing morale. Bullying may cause nurses to prefer to leave their work for other places or quite the profession (Al-Ghabeesh & Qattom, 2019). I had feelings of dissatisfaction, and I had to learn to deal with bullying to continue nursing.

Several measures can help prevent and reduce bullying. Leaders should be at the center of implementation to ensure that all staff behaves appropriately. First, new and old nurses need to understand the various forms of bullying and their effects. Understanding how bullying works and affects people may help them avoid the behaviors. Also, employers should create and implement policies that bar bullying (Al-Ghabeesh & Qattom, 2019). There should be strict punishments against bullies. Having policies that explicitly oppose bullying may help reduce cases of bullying. Therefore rather than discourage it, written policies that discourage bullying should be available to people to read and understand what employers expect of them. Employers must also have channels that enable people to report bullying to take action (Karatuna et al., 2020). Having means of reporting may help employers know when bullying happens and help them fight it.

  • Create an outline of the action plan for the Quality Improvement Project.

  2. Identify and discussed resources including budget needed to implement the quality improvement project.
  3. Develop an action plan for change including a proposed implementation time line

  • The paper is to be 2 – 3 pages in length, excluding the title, abstract and references page.
