Investing In IT Infrastructure

I need an answer to the following discussion reply:

Perform an internet search on these terms “marketing diapers beer” — what did you find? How does this relate to decisions about investments in hardware, software, and other elements of IT infrastructure that are necessary for your firm to surge ahead of competitors and, how businesses use database technology to achieve their objectives?

so here is the initial discussion question and answer that I posted:

6-14 Identify two decisions at the organizations described in this case that were improved by using big data and two that big data did not improve.

Two decisions in which the businesses improved by using Big Data can be seen through Spotify and online services. Spotify is a major music provider and it has over 75 million users worldwide. They use Big data as a tool to collect and analyze the data to help personalize each individual preference in music and provide them with the best selections possible rather than offering the same genre every time (Laudon & Laudon, 2018, p. 244). Spotify has features like discovery tool for new music and Taste Rewind (Laudon & Laudon, 2018, p. 244). The big data helps them to constantly to keep up and tweak some changes to help better the user experience. Online services are another aspect that was improved by Big Data. This allowed individuals to check various apps for flights, prices times etc. Big data can also be seen in sports education, science and health care (Laudon & Laudon, 2018, p. 244).

On the other end of the spectrum areas where big data did not help improve the business were in the security and privacy area, as companies are now trying to collect and data mine the information to find patterns and correlations. This helps the businesses to maximize profit, cut costs while exploiting the consumer’s information. Another aspect is that big data can tend to provide a distorted picture of the problem. An example from the book is when they were using smartphones to detect potholes they did not realize the biases that came with it (Laudon & Laudon, 2018, p. 246). Such as mostly young teens and adults are going to be using this and therefore it won’t be covering a lot of ground and will be compact in certain areas (Laudon & Laudon, 2018, p. 246). Therefore, these can be considered some of the flaws in the use of big data.

Then my professor replied with this response:

Perform an internet search on these terms “marketing diapers beer” — what did you find? How does this relate to this week’s studies on can we trust big data?

How does this relate to decisions about investments in hardware, software, and other elements of IT infrastructure that are necessary for your firm to surge ahead of competitors and, how businesses use database technology to achieve their objectives?

So respond to my professor query.
