Democracy in the UK is on the decline as has been shown by several studies that have been conducted in the last decade. The long-term decline is attributed to the growth of the power of corporations, the declining representation of public interest by the politicians, and the drop in the number of eligible voters who are willing to vote. Disillusioned citizens have stopped voting or even discussing current affairs as the interest in political matters in the public declines. It is a worrying trend which calls for proper measures to improve the state of democracy in the country. Through a “State of the Nation” poll, researchers found out that virtually everyone they interviewed (99%) wanted democratic reforms in the country. More than half the population (55%) believed that the UK was becoming less democratic. They, therefore, suggested some steps boost democracy….
