The International Labor Organization (ILO) is a wing of the United Nations which fosters equal work opportunities for everyone, mitigates labor issues in member countries and aligns them with international labor standards, and enhances social protection (The International Labor Organization, 1998). There are 187 member countries including the Cook Islands in the ILO. The rest is also the UN member states. Fundamentally, the ILO upholds labor and human rights that are recognized internationally, and it underlines the essence of social justice as an element of universal peace. The organization stands for protecting people and jobs. After World War I, the 1919 Peace Conference established the International Labor Organization (ILO) as an independent organization in the same year on April 11th as per its original constitution. In this light, China is one of the ILO founding member states (The International Labor Organization, 1998). In 1985, the ILO established the China office for administrative and coordination of ILO activities in the country. The coordination process involves engagements with social partners within China and upholding international commitments. Primarily, a critical examination of the areas of the ILO’s fundamental conventions in China gives insight into the effectiveness and shortcomings of the ILO in promoting social protection, equality, and justice in the labor market. Child labor and efforts towards its abolition in China is, therefore, a crucial area to explore, understand, and make recommendations for mitigating the issues effectively……………
