What caught my attention the most was the fact that the Irish were treated like people of color and not regarded as ‘whites.’ Irish Americans and Africans shared similar jobs (Exploring the U.S. History, 2017). I understood that during the 1800s, being called white was not primarily due to the skin color but the body structure, social status, and appearance; this meant that the Irish could best fit into the group of African Americans due to the similarities in social status. It is interesting to note that the migration of the Irish people to America due to famine did not help them much as they still lived a low life. This segregation of even the Irish people made me see how the American natives protected their territory. I have been struggling with understanding the….
