In the reading, Livy characterizes Hannibal as an effective leader because of his ability to connect with his subjects. The viewpoint is seen in the text where the Carthage soldiers loved him immediately he arrived in Spain. However, she did not a lot of time to show that he was capable of leading the soldiers in the war against the Romans. He knew the enemy from the first day in his position as the commander-in-chief. The viewpoint is seen through Livy’s claim that he knew Italy was his assigned action field the first day assumed power. Thus, he believed he had a duty to wage war against Rome. Therefore, he began performing his responsibility by attacking the Seguntines to set in motion the war with Rome (Livy 3). He also attacked other cities, such as Cartala where he got the wealth he needed to pay his soldiers (Livy 4). These descriptions embody an ideal Roman man according to Livy’s description of Romulus as Hannibal is portrayed as being strong and having immense military strengths. Thus, he had the ability to lead his people to victory in wars, thereby expanding and sustaining the Carthage territories……………….
