for this assignment , you will use your knowledge of fallacy and apply it to the world around us . if language used creates the realities within which we live , then it is even more important to have ability to identify fallacy so that we make conscious decision based on proof, facts and evidence to prove our voices valid, instead of using fallacy to persuade our readers through empty ,but admittedly powerful words .

  1. Ad Hominem fallacy

Example 1: “I just realized that if you listen to Carly Fiorina for more than ten minutes straight, you develop a massive headache. She has zero chance!” (Trump 2015, Twitter).

In example 1, Trump results to personal attacks against one of his political opponents rather than arguing with the opinions or philosophy of the opponent. He commits an ad hominem fallacy.

Example 2: “There has been no vision or inspirational leadership emerging from the First person of the province, communities are losing hope and all the Premier does is wear a better outfit every day, and shining like a lamp pole” (Tony Ehrenreich, South African Trade Unionist, 2011).

In example 2, the speaker links the failure of the First person to their dressing style. He commits an ad hominem fallacy because he attacks the way the person dresses rather than the policy in discussion. Grooming has nothing to do with leadership policies…….
